A new to me project skx
Hi all. Im new to the forum here as a member, but many of you have helped me immensely with your posts, thank you. Ok
so
I bought a skx beater because I know I cant leave well enough alone, and if I got a new skx I would just end up with a full watch of spare parts. This beater I bought off eBay, I replaced the dial, hands, and chapter ring. My issue is after I press on the hands, I check for hand clearance all the way around the dial, put the movement in the case, then after a while of wearing it the minute hand is up against one of the hour marker and the movement has stopped. If I open the back and press the movement into the case, it moves in slightly and the hands clear once again. Since I got this second hand, Im not sure if I am missing a spacer between the chapter ring and dial, or between the movement and case back, or if the movement holder is not the correct thickness for this case. Any ideas are much appreciated. Thanks in advance!😁

Comparing Early (Feb. to April) 1969 6139-6000 Pogue Dials to later versions
Questions concerning how early February through April 1969 6139-6000 (“Pouge”) SpeedTimer dials look compared to the later dials motivated me to re-post a small research project I did a while back on another forum. This relates only to the "SpeedTimer dials", where the text "SpeedTimer" appears below SEIKO at 12 o'clock in italics and the "5 Shield" logo and SportsWater70Proof is written at 9 o'clock.
We start by grounding this discussing looking at the more familiar style Speed-Timer 5SportsWater70Proof 6139-6000 dial. This one dated Feb. 1970 (or a year after the first known Pogues came out). Late in the game for a SpeedTimer dial, somewhat shortly before the text at 9 o’clock and the SpeedTimer text at 12 o’clock was eliminated. This Dial Code is 6139-6000T.
However the very earliest ones had a unique early style dial. That Dial Code is 6139-6000T AD. (Rod points out that the “AD” in “TAD” indicates “Applied Dial”). Apparently you'll only find these "T AD" dials from Feb. through April 1969. By May 1969 I find they moved to the “T” design. Of course dates are always a bit iffy with Seiko so nothing is written in stone, but I’ve studied this and had about 8 of my own and I will stick with Feb. through April 1969 featuring the TAD dial. Rare catches indeed.
Note with these “TAD” dials there are some subtle differences besides the dial code.
You'll see the font of the "1" in "10" on the T AD early dial is the serif version as seen in later "R" dials, and the "2" in "20" is unlike any other 6139 dials, R or T.
Notice too the early matte hands are present.
But wait! Another difference! The word Speed-Timer below SEIKO at 12 o'clock is different too.
The T AD dial uses the same font but compressed (like Arial vs Arial Narrow in MS Word).
Notice how it barely extends below "SEIKO" in the T AD dial but goes well beyond in the T version:
So, here is a March 1969 Blue Pogue "6139-600T AD" dial for comparison.
Now the Yellow Dials are a different thing altogether. Here is a Yellow May '69 Dial that features the same compressed font as the early blue 1969 T AD Dials.
Note too that in May 1969 Seiko used the matte hands as shown.

I hope this extra minutia is of interest to our legion of Pogue loyalists. I would use this to gage authenticity of the earliest ones especially as Fake Pogue Dials are emerging on the internet.

Aftermarket chrono buttons of Seiko 6139-6005
Hi everyone, looking for some advice on purchasing chrono buttons for 6139-6005 case style. I would prefer to use original buttons but just don't have them. So I'm going to have to resort to aftermarket ones. Anybody have good luck with a particular eBay seller for buttons? They work well? Any issues?
Thanks, Steve

FS| 6309-729A £385
It's a beauty, completely original. No service history but ticks along and starts up quite happily. Not very easy to find an unmolested one in this condition . All works as it should, crown bezel etc. Superb dial and hands...only minor wear to the insert and and original crystal is smart. Overall a lovely example. Also to note is the slightly more glossy insert compared to say the matt 7548 Pepsi inserts.
Dates December 1987.
Asking £385. International pm to discuss shipping as anything over 250 insurance will be costly.

Should we allow discussion even if it goes against "known" facts ?
How does the the membership feel ?
Should we allow posts such as this https://www.thewatchsite.com/21-japa...o-chronos.html with a lot of misinformation to continue or put a stop to it ?
Discussion can be good as it can bring other stuff to light such as the Jan 69 6139 which I hadent seen before.
Are the positives of a post like the one mentioned above worth the negatives that can come from a post like the above ?

Seiko 6139-8029 re-brush
I think I finally have my "recipe" down for certain Seiko brushed finishes. Spruced up the top side brush on this chronograph. Didn't touch the sides as I wanted to keep the original lines ......
Thinking of putting on a vented tropic strap like this style since the original bracelet will be next to impossible to find. A rubber version of the original .....

ETA Quartz weird pulse...ETA 950.001
Anyone know what might be compatible with this movement that's more current and cheaper?
But morw to the point of the thread, this one I have is pulsing at I reckon around 100BPM, but doesn't want to tick for long.. .well it's a 2 hander.
I don't want to strip it and clean it as imo it would seem as though the circuit is faulty, but I'm not sure if the circuit has some weird difference... if anything I thought it should be either 60bpm or something like 2 as all it needs to do is shift the minute hand....
Any ideas please would be most useful!

Kinetic hands swap
Hi,all. New guy here. I have 2 Sportura Kinetic GMTs that I really like. My SUN025P1 is the most readable of the 2 but my SUN029P1 has skinny shiny hands that are hard for my old eyes to see. I had a similar issue on a Rolex Air King and had the hands swapped for Submariner hands. It was perfect.
So my question is....does anyone know the hand hole dimensions of the 5M85 movement? And maybe where I could get some hands that would fit the -029 properly?

FS: NOS SLA017 dial and 7005 $375
I bought this SLA017 dial to do a mod but then decided against it and I also have a "donor" 7005-8042-P that I was going to use the hands from, this seems to be running well but I havent timed it, movement is clean but because I only wanted it for the hands I havent checked it thoroughly.
Looking for $375 paypal F/F, parts and me are in the UK, want to know anything more pm/email, thanks.
