Strap for SNJ019?

$

I had my SNJ019 Sportura Chrono serviced this week, and when I picked it up I finally noticed my strap is starting to crack and separate. I was afraid this day would come.

My Google-fu tracked down only two possibilities - one in the UK for $155, and one in the Netherlands for about $80.

Does anyone know of other options - preferably in the U.S.? Seiko USA's website is every bit as useful as I expected it to be...

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

An Interesting Vintage Seiko Bracelet

Just finished up this watch and took notice of the slightly unusual Seiko bracelet. This is the first like this I have. Bought the watch from supposedly the original owner and the bracelet is claimed to be original.

Most noticeable is that each removable link is secured by two spring tabs (one left & one right per link), not one. And these little buggers are like grasshoppers. Almost impossible to remove them without them jumping out of your fingers and onto the floor (or elsewhere). Engraved clasp that looks pristine and not monkeyed around with. The watch came on a black NATO strap and the bracelet looks hardly worn - was very clean.

Anyone seen this before?

September 1967 - finishing the "Summer Love".

Citizen serial number info wanted

Does anybody have any info on the recent change to Citizen serial numbers ? By recent I mean in the last decade.

At some point recently they switched from the YMMxxxxx format and I am trying to figure out what they switched to and when. They seem to have switched to the Seiko style single digit month as digit 2 but its hard to be sure. I think it also coincided with a switch to 9 digits but I only have 1 citizen so am somewhat short of evidence

If people are willing to post their serial numbers and rough date that would be really helpful, x out anything after the first 3 digits if you like but I need to know the number of digits.

Alternatively I want to know if anybody has a citizen with a serial number thats 8 digits and the second digit is not 0 or 1.

Of course some of you folk may have already figured out what the change was or when they switched to 9 digits ?

Many thanks in advance

Longislandwatch.com offering custom mods

I Just received an email from Mark at Long Island Watch. He is offering a new mod program. You pick out the new Seiko you want, and he will mod it per your preferences. Turn around time is 2-4 weeks. My understanding is that you must pick a sapphire crystal, as part of your mod. He has a link to a video explaining the program, which he has named “Your Watch Your Way”. Your modded watch can be ordered via his website, via a drop down menu, where you choose from different options. He will install Strapcode bracelets, as well, or supply an alternate strap. What a great idea, for those of us not skilled enough to do our own mods!

Good Trade (6106, 7009, and 7546 content)

Had some fun trading with Jerry (Zeke441), so wanted to share some of the details and pics. Jerry is an absolute gentleman, and he does excellent restoration and service work, to boot.

It all started just before Christmas when Jerry posted a WTB for a 6106-8237. I believe he may have just wanted a case and case back, but I had two complete watches, one with original bracelet. They were actually with Tom (SeikoPsycho2) in his queue, and Tom being the good guy that he is, agreed to send them directly to Jerry. I told Jerry to look them over, keep what he wanted if anything, and send back to me what he didn’t want along with something in trade.

We settled on this lovely 7009-3159 (second from the left). I really like the clean dial. Looks white or silver depending on the angle.

Jerry sent me the 7009 and received the two 6106s from Tom (thanks again Tom for sending). Jerry worked his magic, putting together this complete watch, which came out beautifully.

Jerry decided that he wanted to keep both 6106s, so asked what we should do to even up the trade. I had a couple of 6106-8207s with the nice green sunburst dial, one with bracelet. I proposed that he would fix up one and send back to me and keep what remained. He agreed, so I sent them to him (more on that in a minute).

In the meantime, Jerry being the good guy that he is sent me a quartz 7546 with a really nice blue dial, which I’d previously mentioned I admired. It’s the one on the bottom.

Here’s a cool video slide show Jerry had made when he broke down the train on the 7546, giving it a service previously
Anyway, fast forward to today, when I came home from work to find this beautiful green 6106 waiting for me.

It came out very nice. I particularly like the BOR bracelet.

Here are some group shots of the “Jerry trio”:

I had a lot of fun trading with Jerry. This transaction is a perfect example of why and how this community is so great. I couldn’t be more pleased with the watches, but more importantly, the fun I had making a new friend.

Thanks again, Jerry!

Seiko SKZ327 Stargate First Generation

Hey guys. You've probably seen this watch in the WOYW thread but I wanted to share some thoughts about it and add some other photos for your entertainment. At 42mm across the bezel it wears nicely for my 6.75 inch wrist. It only weighs 106 grams on the Uncle Seiko waffle strap. I received the oem bracelet with it but I'm leaving it on the super comfy waffle strap. The design cues on this watch are just fantastic. From the all black bezel which appears to float above the case to the curvature of the case that hugs the wrist to the black crown with the white stripe, it's just a masterpiece of design.

I just love everything about this watch and I'm so proud to have it in my collection. Thank you David for taking such good care of it and thank you again Todd for offering me the opportunity to own such an iconic Seiko.

Grab Bag Luck aka 18K gold is nice

Grabbed a big 'ol bag of vintage watches off Yahoo Japan, and they arrived finally. This is the first gem out of the group:

I have to say the older Seiko's in the lot with gold hands/markers REALLY are sexy. it's clear the 18K gold used back in the day has a special quality. This one is running a little fast, but other than that, noting to complain about.

For sale is a citizen eco drive world time that is lightly used. This is a beautiful watch that i’d hate to part with it but i have things i need to fund. Looking to get $150, shipped to anywhere in The US. Comes with a like new french made dark brown leather band (see picture). I barely used the strap for more than a couple of hours. Attached is a side by side picture with a 6309 turtle for size comparison. Keeps perfect time in the time i’ve owned it.

Jewel springs!! - help to find not to fit

$

Hello all,
I have tried and tried and tried to fit a 7s26 jewel spring after disassembly and cleaning. As I am sure many can relate to it has pinged off into the abyss! I wont ask how to do this as I guess it is just practice.
What I do need is to buy a number of replacements as I am likely to loose quite a few more before I am able to complete the assembly.
I have done an online search and can only seem to find the shamrock shaped ones but need the 2 pronged rectangular ones (picture attached). Could anyone help with where these could be sourced? They do not necessarily need to be Seiko - just fit.

Thanks in advance

Matt

Hacking Complication on an Automatic

Is it the Cool factor ? If an automatic movement is -10 to +30 seconds a day as soon as you start the watch after hacking it is off again anyway. Or does your automatic keep within a second per day ?

SGP vs base metal top

$

Hi, new member here, just bought a 4006-6049 ser#4519xx. It has gold tone case and dial but is stamped base metal top as opposed to SGP that I’ve seen on other gold watches.
Are all watches stamped base metal top, gold plated or just a polished metal such as brass?
I’ve read another post years back on this subject but it really never addressed
this question, just talked about what SGP for.

Hope I didn’t break any forum protocols by starting this thread.
Thanks for any info
